Overview

Diagnosis

Norovirus infection is usually diagnosed based on symptoms, including vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps. In some cases, especially for people with weakened immune systems or other medical conditions, a stool test may be done to confirm the presence of norovirus.

Treatment

There is no specific treatment for norovirus infection. Recovery generally depends on the strength of the immune system, and most people recover within a few days.

  • Fluid replacement: Replacing lost fluids is crucial. Oral rehydration solutions can help prevent dehydration. If fluid intake is insufficient, intravenous fluids may be necessary.

  • Symptom management: Over-the-counter medications may be used to reduce diarrhea and nausea, as recommended by a healthcare provider.

Supportive care and rest are key to a full recovery.
